Youth in Kanye Engage with De Beers, UNICEF, and Government to Unlock Skills and Career Opportunities. Young people in Kanye recently took part in an engaging and forward-looking initiative aimed at equipping them with the skills and tools needed to succeed in today’s fast-changing economy. The interactive session was part of a nationwide programme jointly driven by the Ministry of Youth & Gender Affairs, De Beers Group, and UNICEF, focusing on youth empowerment, entrepreneurship, and innovation.

The initiative provides a valuable platform for young Batswana to connect with mentors, access developmental opportunities, and build pathways into employment and business. Through this partnership, the programme seeks to prepare youth with practical skills in career development, entrepreneurship, and future readiness, contributing to long-term and inclusive economic growth.

Among the key opportunities presented during the Kanye engagement were:

  • Open Internships for final-year students, offering 3- to 6-month work placements in various sectors;
  • Access to the De Beers Diamond Academy, which offers short courses for those looking to enter the mining industry;
  • Sponsorship and leadership development programmes, including the Leaders Accelerator, which equips participants with knowledge and tools to fast-track personal and professional growth.

For Botswana’s entrepreneurs, youth-focused organisations, and private sector partners, this collaboration represents a strong model of public-private investment in human capital. By focusing on access, skills training, and innovation, the initiative creates a more resilient and opportunity-rich ecosystem for youth participation in the economy.

As the programme tour continues across Botswana, it is expected to reach more towns and villages, unlocking potential and building a more inclusive future.
