Wilderness Highlights 2025 as Milestone Year for Purpose-Led Tourism in Botswana. Wilderness has marked 2025 as a significant year defined by recovery, growth and impact-driven tourism, underscoring the sector’s role in Botswana’s economy and conservation efforts in the post-pandemic period.

The company outlined a range of developments spanning community empowerment, small and medium enterprise support, conservation initiatives and global recognition. According to Wilderness, these efforts reflect a broader shift toward inclusive development and partnerships rooted in long-term purpose.

These milestones were shared during a stakeholder engagement evening hosted recently at BotswanaCraft in Gaborone. The event brought together government partners, Members and Friends of Wilderness, suppliers, creative contributors, conservation partners and representatives from across the tourism ecosystem. Some suppliers in attendance had previously participated in the company’s Local Supplier Expo.

The gathering was designed as an immersive experience that showcased Botswana’s artistic and culinary heritage, while also recognising the partnerships that continue to support Wilderness’ operations and growth. The event served as a platform to reflect on the year’s progress and to acknowledge contributions from across the value chain.

Speaking at the event, Wilderness Botswana Board Chair Kabelo Binns described 2025 as a turning point for both the company and the national tourism sector. He noted that the year was shaped by a combination of challenges and achievements.

“2025 has been a defining year, not just for Wilderness, but for our country’s tourism sector,” Binns said. He referenced a range of difficulties, including extreme heat, flooding and ongoing human-wildlife interactions, alongside what he described as notable national and business achievements.

Binns added that Botswana has strengthened its global tourism standing while reinforcing local partnerships. He emphasised that Wilderness’ growth has been driven by a focus on empowering citizens, supporting communities and demonstrating that conservation and commercial success can coexist.

According to Wilderness, the year’s outcomes reinforce its approach to tourism that prioritises people-centred development, collaboration and a strong national identity, positioning purpose-led tourism as a key pillar of Botswana’s future tourism landscape.
