Vunani Launches Botswana’s First Global Actively Managed ETF on the BSE. Vunani Fund Managers has introduced a new investment vehicle designed to expand options within Botswana’s capital markets, unveiling the Vunani Global Actively Managed Exchange Traded Fund (ETF). Listed this morning on the Botswana Stock Exchange (BSE), the ETF becomes the first actively managed global product of its kind available in the country.
The launch comes at a time when local investors continue to navigate challenges associated with limited liquidity and a relatively narrow selection of investable assets on the domestic market. These conditions have often resulted in capital concentration in a small group of counters or the need to compromise on asset quality due to a shortage of liquid alternatives.
Vunani positions the new ETF as a tool that can help address these constraints by converting market inefficiencies into opportunities. The firm notes that the product has been structured to encourage broader participation on the BSE while widening the investment universe available to institutional players such as pension funds and insurers.
According to Vunani Fund Managers, the ETF introduces portfolio-management features that allow investors to manage risk more effectively. These include enhanced hedging options and improved diversification pathways, which can assist investors in refining market exposures without relying on distressed selling during periods of volatility.
The firm highlights that stronger risk-management tools do not translate into higher exposure. Instead, they provide structured ways to control it, contributing to more stable market behaviour and reducing the likelihood of panic-driven disruptions.
Vunani also states that transparency will be central to the ETF’s operations. Investors can expect clear disclosures regarding underlying exposures and processes, including the mechanisms used for creation and redemption of units. The firm adds that its operational framework has been designed to function efficiently even within an environment where liquidity varies across asset classes.
As the product enters the market, Vunani indicates that it will be marketed with an emphasis on responsible communication, ensuring investors fully understand both the opportunities and risks associated with the ETF.
