University of Botswana Unveils UniPod Innovation Hub to Advance STEM and Entrepreneurship. The University of Botswana (UB) has officially celebrated the handover of the UniPod, a cutting-edge innovation hub designed to promote interdisciplinary learning, STEM education, and entrepreneurial thinking across the institution and beyond.

Held on UB’s main campus, the handover ceremony marked a defining moment in the university’s commitment to building a future-ready academic environment. The UniPod is envisioned as a collaborative space where students, researchers, and industry professionals can co-create solutions, prototype ideas, and explore ventures that respond to national and global challenges.

Speaking at the event, Professor Richie Moalosi, Director of the University Pod, highlighted the importance of the facility in enhancing innovation across disciplines. “The UniPod is more than a physical structure—it’s a platform that enables transformative learning and practical experimentation. This is a step toward preparing our students for the realities of the modern world where STEM knowledge and entrepreneurial thinking are critical,” he said.

Equipped with modern tools and flexible workspaces, the UniPod is expected to serve as a hub for hackathons, design thinking workshops, tech bootcamps, and collaborative research projects. It also aims to strengthen university-industry linkages, offering a space where the private sector and academia can jointly tackle developmental priorities.

The facility is part of UB’s broader strategic initiative to integrate innovation and enterprise into its core mandate. It aligns with national development goals to diversify the economy through knowledge-driven sectors and empower youth with critical skills.

With the handover now complete, the UniPod is open and ready to welcome innovators from within and outside the university. UB remains committed to fostering a culture of innovation that drives Botswana’s growth and positions the institution as a regional leader in research and development.
