Tlou Advances Solar Plans at Lesedi to Accelerate Use of Existing Infrastructure. Tlou Energy is moving ahead with plans to develop a solar power project at its Lesedi site as part of efforts to generate earlier value from infrastructure already in place.

While gas field development at Lesedi continues, the company is evaluating a solar installation that would make use of the site’s existing substation and transmission line. Energising the transmission line has been identified as a priority, allowing Tlou to begin deriving commercial benefit from these assets while broader gas development progresses.

Tlou’s data centre partner, Kala, has indicated demand for up to 1 megawatt of solar photovoltaic capacity to meet near term power needs. In response, Tlou is assessing the development of an initial 5 megawatt solar field at Lesedi. Discussions are under way regarding a potential solar power purchase agreement as well as project funding.

If the initial 5 megawatt phase proceeds, the project could later be expanded to as much as 20 megawatts. Any expansion would depend on technical performance, commercial viability, and financing arrangements. At this stage, no power purchase agreement or funding package has been finalised, but the solar initiative has been identified as a strategic focus for the company’s board.

Tlou has also outlined the possibility of integrating solar generation with its existing gas resources at Lesedi. Based on current gas flow rates, a combined gas and solar configuration could support a power facility designed to deliver more consistent output, subject to successful technical execution and funding.

The hybrid approach is intended to improve reliability, make fuller use of installed infrastructure, and support a shift toward lower carbon energy solutions. Further updates are expected as negotiations continue and development plans are refined.
