Thapelo Moribame, the Head of Market Development at the Botswana Stock Exchange (BSE), is set to feature among Africa’s leading financial voices at the 2025 AFSIC – Investing in Africa conference. Recognized for her transformative leadership and deep expertise in capital markets, Moribame has built an impressive career spanning over 18 years in financial market development, SME financing, business growth, and policy reform.
Her academic and professional foundation reflects a strong blend of research and practical insight. She holds a Master of Commerce in Economics from Stellenbosch University, where her research examined mineral rent utilization for economic diversification in Botswana — a topic that remains central to the country’s long-term growth agenda. She also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and Public Administration from the University of Botswana and has completed specialized studies in International Trade at the United Nations University in Tokyo.
Beyond her leadership at the BSE, Moribame plays a key role on the continental and global stage. She serves on the board of Nabo Capital in Kenya, contributes to the African Securities Exchanges Association’s (ASEA) Policy & Regulatory Working Group, and was recently appointed to the United Nations Sustainable Stock Exchanges Advisory Group on SMEs and Sustainability.
Her recognition by the World Federation of Exchanges (WFE) as one of the Top 20 Women Leaders for 2025 underscores her impact and commitment to driving inclusive and sustainable finance across Africa.
