Shumba Energy Breaks Ground on P1 Billion Tati Solar Project in Botswana. Shumba Energy has commenced construction of its 100MW Tati Solar Project near Francistown, marking a significant milestone for one of Botswana’s largest renewable energy investments.

According to the company’s quarterly market update for the period ended 30 June 2026, the contractor has received formal approval to begin construction and has already mobilised to the project site. Valued at more than P1 billion, the solar facility is expected to begin generating electricity in 2027, with power destined for the Southern African Power Pool.

The project will be developed on approximately 160 hectares in Botswana’s North-East District and is expected to generate around 600 jobs during the construction phase. Permanent employment opportunities are also anticipated once the solar plant becomes operational.

Shumba Energy said the investment is expected to stimulate economic activity in the surrounding area while contributing to the country’s renewable energy generation capacity.

In addition to the Tati Solar Project, the company said it continues to engage investors and strategic partners on several of its larger energy developments. These include the Sechaba and Mabesekwa power projects, as well as its Coal-to-Liquids initiative.

The company also confirmed that discussions remain ongoing with Eskom and Sasol regarding potential future supply agreements. Meanwhile, progress continues on the Morupule South Resources Project through engagements with prospective development partners.

Shumba Energy reported a significantly improved cash position during the quarter, with cash reserves rising to US$5.36 million from US$624,297 in the previous quarter. The increase comes despite substantial expenditure on project construction activities.
