Shumba Energy Advances 100MW Tati Solar Project with Construction Set to Begin. Shumba Energy Ltd is preparing to begin construction mobilisation for its 100 megawatt Tati Solar Photovoltaic project, marking a significant step forward for the utility scale renewable energy development near Francistown.

The project is being developed within a Single Factory Special Economic Zone and represents a major component of the company’s renewable energy portfolio. Shumba Energy holds a 75 percent ownership stake in the facility, highlighting its long term commitment to expanding solar power infrastructure in Botswana.

A key milestone was reached in the fourth quarter of 2025 with the signing of the Engineering, Procurement and Construction contract in December. Securing this agreement confirms the appointment of a construction partner and establishes cost parameters for the build phase. The development is now considered materially de risked as it transitions toward physical construction.

Construction mobilisation is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2026. This phase will focus on preparing the site and organising the resources required to move the project toward completion and future operations.

In parallel, progress is being made on the project’s carbon credit validation. The Gold Standard certification process is advancing and remains on track for registration in 2026. Once registered, the project is expected to generate verified carbon offsets, adding an environmental performance component alongside electricity generation.

Shumba Energy has also continued community engagement efforts as part of its development approach. These initiatives are aimed at maintaining alignment with local stakeholders ahead of construction activity.

Shumba Energy is a Botswana based energy development company listed on the Botswana Stock Exchange. The company’s progress on the Tati Solar project reflects ongoing activity in Botswana’s renewable energy sector, supported by an investment environment noted for policy stability and regulatory certainty.
