Selebi Phikwe Citrus Expands to Dikgathong with P500 Million Investment, Creating 500 New Jobs. Selebi Phikwe Citrus is expanding its footprint to the Dikgathong area through a P500 million investment, a move expected to create 500 additional jobs and further position Botswana as a competitive player in the global citrus market.

The expansion includes the development of new orchards, packhouses, and processing facilities, all designed to boost production and enhance export readiness. This latest phase builds on the company’s earlier success, which saw an investment of P447 million, the creation of 405 jobs, and the establishment of export markets across the European Union, United Kingdom, Russia, Canada, and the United Arab Emirates.

With its growing capacity, Selebi Phikwe Citrus is now targeting new destinations, including China, South Korea, India, and the United States. The project’s continued growth represents a significant milestone for Botswana’s agri-business sector, contributing to job creation, rural development, and economic diversification.

Chief Executive Officer Pieter Scholtz emphasized that the expansion is not only about boosting exports but also about building inclusive growth within communities. “We have successfully opened up export markets for Botswana fruit, paving the way for other citrus producers and promoting inclusive growth,” he said.

The project’s expansion reinforces Selebi Phikwe’s transformation from a mining-dependent town into an agricultural hub, supporting national efforts to diversify Botswana’s economy through value-added agriculture. As demand for sustainably grown fruit rises globally, Selebi Phikwe Citrus continues to position Botswana as a trusted source of high-quality produce.
