Saverite Butchery Section Shut Down in Oodi Over Health VViolations. Health authorities have shut down the butchery section of Saverite Super Point in Oodi following a routine inspection that uncovered non-compliance with waste management regulations. The operation, which took place yesterday, forms part of ongoing efforts to enforce food safety standards across the country.
As a result of the violations, the store was issued a P1,000.00 fine and ordered to carry out extensive cleaning of its butchery area before resuming operations. Health officials also confiscated 132 kilograms of meat, which was deemed unfit for consumption and subsequently transported for disposal at the Gamodubu landfill.
The inspection team cited poor waste handling practices and general cleanliness concerns as reasons for the closure of the butchery section. Authorities have warned that similar enforcement actions will continue across other localities to ensure full compliance with public health regulations.
Saverite has been formally notified of the corrective actions required and will be subject to re-inspection before the butchery section can reopen to the public.
The closure has drawn attention from both local residents and business operators, serving as a reminder to retailers and food outlets about the importance of adhering to hygiene and waste management standards. For entrepreneurs in the retail and food sectors, the incident underscores the need for regular internal checks and prompt attention to health and safety requirements.
Health officials have reaffirmed their commitment to protecting public health and maintaining the integrity of Botswana’s food supply chain. Business owners are encouraged to take proactive steps to comply with regulations and avoid penalties or operational disruptions.
