President Boko Launches Climate Adaptation Project to Boost Rural Entrepreneurship. President of the Republic of Botswana, Advocate Duma Gideon Boko, officially launched the Ecosystem-Based Adaptation and Mitigation in Communal Rangelands National Project this morning, opening new opportunities for rural entrepreneurship and climate-smart economic activity.

Funded by the Green Climate Fund through the United Nations, the project targets 104 villages—52 in Ngamiland, 36 in Kgalagadi, and 16 in Bobirwa—with the goal of strengthening climate resilience, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and supporting sustainable livelihoods. For Botswana’s entrepreneurial community, particularly those in agriculture, ecotourism, and green enterprises, the project offers a platform to innovate and scale climate-smart businesses.

Speaking at the launch, President Boko highlighted the project’s potential to empower local communities while restoring degraded ecosystems. “This project is a catalyst for new economic opportunities built on sustainability, innovation, and resilience,” he said.

Key areas of focus include rangeland restoration and improved livestock management—sectors rich with entrepreneurial potential. Agri-preneurs and emerging farmers are expected to benefit from training, technical support, and improved access to sustainable land-use practices that can enhance productivity and income.

For Botswana’s green economy innovators, the project signals growing investment in sustainable enterprise. Entrepreneurs involved in eco-friendly technologies, regenerative agriculture, and carbon-smart practices stand to play a central role in shaping a more resilient rural economy.

Beyond environmental impact, the project aims to promote inclusive growth by creating jobs, increasing food security, and building value chains that are both climate-resilient and commercially viable.
