Phikwe-Based Youth Firm Delivers 50,000 Sanitary Pads for Government Rollout. Bloom Sanitary Pads, a 100% youth-owned local company, has successfully completed its first major government contract by delivering 50,000 sanitary pad packs for Botswana’s free sanitary pads initiative. The firm, headquartered in Selebi-Phikwe, is among the few homegrown manufacturers operating in this essential healthcare space.

The delivery was completed within a record timeframe of just three days, marking a milestone for both the business and the national initiative aimed at improving menstrual hygiene access for girls and women across the country.

Speaking on the achievement, Founder and Managing Director Gogontle Basiami expressed pride in Bloom’s readiness and capacity. “As the leading manufacturer of sanitary pads in Botswana, we were able to meet the 50,000-pack target ahead of schedule. This is a clear indication of our ability to deliver at scale and meet national demand,” she stated.

The initiative, which aims to provide free sanitary pads through government distribution channels, represents a crucial step in addressing period poverty and promoting dignity and access to education for girls. The government’s engagement with citizen-owned enterprises like Bloom also reflects a growing commitment to support youth-led innovation and local industrial growth.

Bloom Sanitary Pads’ role in this programme is a noteworthy example of how young entrepreneurs can play a key role in meeting public sector needs while building sustainable businesses.
