Parliament to Probe Sayed Jamali’s Property Holdings and Government Rental CCosts. Botswana’s Parliament is set to receive clarity on the extent of businessman Sayed Jamali’s land and property ownership in and around Gaborone during tomorrow’s session. The inquiry, raised by Serowe South Member of Parliament Leepetswe Lesedi, seeks a detailed response from the Minister of Water and Human Settlement.

Lesedi has requested a comprehensive breakdown of both commercial and residential plots owned by Jamali and his affiliated companies. He is also pressing for information on how many properties are currently leased by various government departments from Jamali, including the length of each lease agreement.

In addition to property ownership, Lesedi is questioning the government’s broader expenditure on rentals and accommodation. He has asked the Minister to disclose the total annual rental costs incurred by the state and whether there are any plans to reduce this expense through the construction of government-owned hotels and office buildings.

The question is expected to be answered during the scheduled parliamentary session on Tuesday. It reflects ongoing concerns about public spending on leased properties and the level of private sector influence in key government infrastructure arrangements.

Observers say the outcome of the Minister’s response could shed light on the government’s long-term accommodation strategy and raise broader discussions around land ownership transparency and the use of public funds.
