Orange Money Introduces Free Hospital Cash Insurance for Active Users. Orange Money Botswana has unveiled a new free hospital cash insurance benefit for its active customers, marking a major milestone in the company’s drive to provide inclusive financial protection and value-added services.

The Orange Money Hospital Cash Benefit offers payouts to customers who are hospitalized for at least two consecutive nights in any hospital registered under the Ministry of Health & Wellness. The payout amount depends on a customer’s Orange Money usage — ranging from P25 to P200 per night, with a monthly maximum of P6,000.

Speaking during the launch, Seabelo Pilane, CEO of Orange Money Botswana, said the initiative reflects the company’s commitment to customer welfare.“This new benefit is one small step in our ambition to give back to our loyal customers by helping to ease the financial strain that hospitalization can bring,” he said. “Whether young, self-employed, or between jobs — all our active users are automatically covered at no cost.”

The insurance cover is automatically renewed monthly based on the customer’s Orange Money activity, which includes transactions such as sending money, bill payments, airtime purchases, and using the Orange Money Visa card.

To make a claim, customers can simply *dial 145# and submit their hospital discharge form, invoice or receipt, and ID via WhatsApp, making the process simple and fully digital.

The new insurance benefit is a product of a partnership between Orange Money Botswana, Metropolitan Insurance, and Inclusivity Solutions — three organizations working to expand access to affordable insurance through mobile technology.

For Botswana’s entrepreneurs and self-employed individuals, this innovation represents a safety net against unforeseen medical expenses, while also reinforcing the growing potential of digital finance to drive inclusive economic resilience.
