National Arts Festival Showcases Creative Industry’s Economic Potential. The 2025 National Arts Festival continued its celebrations with a vibrant Fashion Show and Art Exhibition, hosted by the National Arts Council of Botswana. The event highlighted the depth of local talent while reinforcing the creative sector’s growing role as a driver of economic growth and diversification.

The fashion show brought together designers, dressmakers, models, and hairstylists from the Southern Region, while the art exhibition featured works from visual artists based in Gaborone, Tlokweng, and Ramotswa. Together, the showcase celebrated innovation and artistry while demonstrating how creativity can be transformed into commercial opportunities.

Delivering the keynote address, the Minister of Sport and Arts, Honourable Jacob Kelebeng, stressed that Botswana’s creative industry has the potential to become “the new diamond” of the economy. He noted that with the right level of support and investment, the sector could generate employment, attract tourism, and reduce reliance on government expenditure. “The National Arts Council of Botswana was established to support and develop the creative industry, commercialise it, and ensure that it meaningfully contributes to the national economy while improving the livelihoods of practitioners,” he said.

For Botswana’s entrepreneurs and investors, the showcase underscored the potential for partnerships in fashion, design, and visual arts that could expand into local and international markets. With the growing global demand for authentic African creativity, Botswana’s cultural sector offers untapped opportunities in exports, creative tourism, and digital platforms.

The event also demonstrated the role of creativity in building communities and inspiring innovation across industries. By investing in the arts, businesses can unlock value chains that extend into retail, manufacturing, and tourism, positioning the creative sector as a key contributor to Botswana’s broader economic transformation.
