Morupule Coal Mine Joins 2025 World Accreditation Day to Highlight SME Empowerment

Morupule Coal Mine Joins 2025 World Accreditation Day to Highlight SME Empowerment. Morupule Coal Mine (MCM) has officially confirmed its participation in this year’s World Accreditation Day Commemoration, standing in support of the 2025 theme: “Accreditation: Empowering Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).”

Observed annually on 9 June, World Accreditation Day celebrates the role of accreditation in strengthening industry standards and building trust across economies. This year’s theme places a spotlight on how accreditation can serve as a catalyst for SME growth, enabling small businesses to meet international benchmarks and access wider markets.

Morupule Coal Mine’s involvement underscores its ongoing commitment to supporting Botswana’s economic development through collaboration with the local enterprise sector. While traditionally known for its large-scale mining operations, MCM continues to advocate for the advancement of local SMEs through supplier development, capacity-building initiatives, and quality assurance support.

For Botswana entrepreneurs, the theme is especially relevant. Accreditation offers a pathway to increased credibility, access to new value chains, and enhanced competitiveness—key ingredients for scaling up sustainably in both domestic and export markets.

The commemoration creates an important dialogue between industry leaders, policymakers, and entrepreneurs on how accreditation bodies, such as the Botswana Bureau of Standards (BOBS), can work alongside the private sector to help SMEs meet regulatory requirements, improve product quality, and gain consumer trust.

SMEs and entrepreneurs are encouraged to engage in the national activities surrounding the day and explore how accreditation can become a strategic asset in their business journey.
