Moremi Game Reserve Temporarily Closed Due to Flooding. The Ministry of Environment and Tourism has issued a public notice confirming the temporary closure of Moremi Game Reserve from 5–26 March 2026 following flooding caused by ongoing heavy rains.

The Ministry clarified that the closure applies only to road access into the reserve, while facilities that operate through air access remain unaffected. Tourists planning visits via charter flights or other air services will still be able to access lodges and camps inside the reserve during the closure period.

The announcement comes as heavy rainfall continues to affect parts of northern Botswana, raising water levels and impacting accessibility in key wildlife areas. The Ministry emphasized that the measure is necessary to ensure visitor safety and protect infrastructure from further damage.

In addition to Moremi, the Ministry also advised tourists intending to visit the Central Kalahari Game Reserve to exercise caution, noting possible flooding in the northern part of the reserve. Travellers are encouraged to stay updated on conditions and follow guidance from park authorities.

The temporary closure highlights the challenges posed by seasonal flooding in Botswana’s wilderness areas, where road networks are often vulnerable to heavy rains. Despite these disruptions, the Ministry reassured visitors that Botswana’s tourism sector remains resilient, with alternative arrangements available to ensure continued access to its renowned safari experiences.

Authorities will continue to monitor conditions closely and provide updates as necessary. The Ministry urged visitors and operators to plan accordingly and prioritize safety during this period.
