Minister Modise Urges All in Food Supply Chain to Prioritise Safety at World Food Safety Day Commemoration. The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with its development partners, held a special session to mark World Food Safety Day, underscoring the urgent need for safe food practices across Botswana’s food supply value chain.
Speaking at the event, Minister of Health Dr. Stephen Modise emphasized that food safety is not optional—it is essential. Addressing stakeholders from various sectors, he urged every participant in the food production, handling, and distribution process to uphold the highest safety standards.
This year’s theme, “Food Safety: Science in Action,” highlights the role of scientific innovation and evidence-based practices in reducing foodborne illnesses, cutting down on food waste, and ultimately saving lives.
The session included expert presentations, stakeholder engagements, and discussions on how scientific tools can improve food testing, hygiene protocols, and risk management systems in Botswana’s growing food industry.
Local entrepreneurs in food production and processing were encouraged to invest in training and systems that ensure their products meet both national and global food safety standards.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening regulatory frameworks, capacity building, and partnerships to make safe food a shared reality across the country.
