Microsoft Office Presence Eyed for Botswana Following High-Level Talks. Botswana may soon welcome a new global player to its business landscape, as Microsoft is expected to establish an office in the country. The development was shared by the Minister of Labour and Home Affairs, Major General Pius Mokgware, following discussions with the Director-General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Amy E. Pope.

Speaking after their recent meeting held abroad, Mokgware confirmed that the two leaders discussed expanding international partnerships and investment in Botswana. He noted that this was their second engagement, following Pope’s visit to Botswana in December 2024.

According to Mokgware, Pope assured him that the IOM is planning to open an office in Botswana and reaffirmed her commitment to supporting the entry of more international companies into the country. Among the businesses mentioned was Microsoft, which Pope indicated she hopes to bring to Botswana in the near future.

The Minister welcomed the news, describing the potential arrival of Microsoft as a positive signal for the local economy. He noted that attracting global companies has long been a priority and expressed optimism that Microsoft’s presence would help create employment opportunities for Batswana.

While specific timelines and operational details have not yet been announced, the prospect of a Microsoft office in Botswana could have significant implications for the local tech ecosystem, including partnerships, skills development, and broader digital transformation.

Entrepreneurs and businesses in Botswana are likely to watch this development closely, particularly given the potential for collaboration, innovation, and access to new technologies that could emerge from a local Microsoft presence.
