MEIYSAC Supports Youth Mushroom Enterprises with Start-Up Materials. The Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture (MEIYSAC) has officially handed over N$223,000 worth of specialised equipment and materials to six youth-led mushroom cultivation projects at the Berg Aukas Youth Skills Training Centre in the Otjozondjupa Region.
The initiative marks a significant step in promoting youth entrepreneurship and agricultural innovation, aligning with the objectives of NDP6. In 2025, the Ministry trained 104 young people from all fourteen regions in mushroom production, equipping them with both practical and entrepreneurial skills to create sustainable livelihoods.
The start-up materials provided will enable trained youth from selected regions with suitable facilities to establish viable mushroom production enterprises in their communities. The programme is set to expand further, with additional beneficiaries expected to receive support during the 2026/2027 financial year.
Speaking at the handover, Mr. Lysias Haiduwa, Deputy Director: Employment & Training, described the initiative as a strategic investment in Namibia’s future. He noted that the project directly supports national goals by promoting self-employment, entrepreneurship, and food security.
Beneficiaries were encouraged to manage the resources responsibly and use the opportunity to build sustainable enterprises that can uplift their communities and inspire other young entrepreneurs. Representing the recipients, Mr. Andrew Geiseb expressed gratitude to the Ministry for bridging the gap between training and practical business opportunities. He emphasized that the responsibility now lies with the youth to ensure the resources translate into meaningful impact.
Through initiatives such as this, MEIYSAC continues to strengthen youth empowerment by ensuring that skills development is matched with the resources needed to create real economic opportunities. The mushroom cultivation projects are expected to contribute to both local food production and income generation, reinforcing the Ministry’s commitment to sustainable youth development.
