Maranyane Bokamoso Bootcamp Showcases Youth Innovation, Crowns The Robin Islanders as Champions. The Maranyane Bokamoso Bootcamp concluded its five-day programme on a high note, with young minds displaying exceptional talent in robotics and innovation. The First Lego League competition, which formed part of the bootcamp, saw The Robin Islanders claim first place with a score of 148 points.

NASA 2.0 came in a close second with 146 points, followed by The Excavators at 142 and The Kimberlites with 139. The teams were assessed on their ability to creatively solve real-world problems using robotics and research presentations.

This year’s theme, “Integrating Smart Technology for Enhanced Efficiency,” focused on mining-related challenges. Participants were tasked with designing robotic systems that could improve safety, productivity, and environmental outcomes in mining environments.

The Robin Islanders impressed judges with their RVD 7 machine — a robotic solution developed to detect underground hazards before they pose a risk. The system is also capable of analyzing both the quantity and quality of carats in mining zones, aiming to boost safety while enhancing operational precision.

The bootcamp highlighted the importance of critical thinking, teamwork, and innovation among young learners. Participants not only competed, but also engaged in mentorship sessions and collaborative workshops aimed at nurturing future leaders in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

Organizers hailed the event as a resounding success, noting the enthusiasm and technical skill demonstrated by all teams. The initiative continues to provide a platform for youth to explore STEM careers while tackling real-world challenges through creative solutions.

The Maranyane Bokamoso Bootcamp remains a key programme supporting Botswana’s broader goals of youth empowerment and innovation-driven development.
