Lucara Unveils 1,305.4-Carat Karowe Diamond Before President Boko and Cabinet. Lucara Botswana has presented a 1,305.4-carat rough diamond recovered from the Karowe Diamond Mine to President Advocate Duma Boko and members of Cabinet, marking another significant milestone for the mine’s diamond production.

The presentation was made by Lucara Botswana Managing Director Naseem Lahri during an official engagement attended by the President and Cabinet.

According to Lucara Botswana, the newly recovered stone is the tenth diamond weighing more than 1,000 carats to be produced by the Karowe Diamond Mine since mining operations began.

The recovery adds to the mine’s record of producing large, high-value diamonds and highlights Karowe’s continued output of exceptional stones.During the presentation, Minister of Minerals and Energy Bogolo Kenewendo provided an update on developments affecting Botswana’s diamond industry.

Kenewendo said the sector is showing signs of recovery following the temporary expiry of the United States’ 10 percent import tariff on diamonds. She noted that the change means diamonds can now enter the American market without being subject to the tariff.

The development comes as Botswana continues to monitor conditions in the global diamond market, with the United States remaining an important destination for diamond sales.

The presentation of the 1,305.4-carat diamond also underscores the continued importance of the Karowe Diamond Mine within Botswana’s mining industry. Since commencing operations, the mine has become known for producing several diamonds exceeding 1,000 carats.
