Lobatse Town Council Launches Digital App for Rates Collection. The Lobatse Town Council has introduced a new digital solution to improve revenue collection, unveiling the use of the First National Bank (FNB) App to tackle low rates collection and enhance efficiency.
Speaking during a Full Council meeting on Monday, Lobatse Mayor Aron Ganakgomo highlighted the importance of adopting technology-driven solutions to maximize revenue streams. He noted that the council had been uploaded as a Public Recipient with FNB, enabling property owners to pay rates directly through cell phone banking or online transactions.
Mayor Ganakgomo emphasized that the initiative was timely, given FNB’s significant presence in the property market, holding an estimated 60 to 65 percent share. This integration is expected to make it easier for most rates debtors and the wider community to settle payments conveniently from their homes.
The council’s move reflects a broader strategy to modernize municipal services and improve financial sustainability. By leveraging digital platforms, Lobatse Town Council aims to reduce arrears, streamline payment processes, and strengthen its capacity to deliver essential services to residents.
Property owners will now be able to log into the FNB App, select the council as a recipient, and complete transactions securely. This marks a step toward greater accessibility and efficiency in local governance, aligning with national efforts to embrace digital transformation in public service delivery.
The introduction of the app underscores Lobatse Town Council’s commitment to innovation and responsiveness, ensuring that residents benefit from convenient, reliable, and modern solutions for fulfilling their civic obligations.
