Letlhakane Youth Empowered Through Employability Workshop Led by MYGA, GenU, and De Beers Group. Young people in Letlhakane were equipped with essential skills for today’s job market during a Youth Employability Workshop held through a partnership between the Ministry of Youth and Gender Affairs (MYGA), UNICEF’s Generation Unlimited (GenU) initiative, and the De Beers Group.
The workshop, held to improve youth readiness for employment and entrepreneurship, brought together government departments, private sector experts, and young participants for a day of interactive learning and mentorship.
Delivering welcome remarks, Mr. Mbigani Magina, Programmes Officer II at MYGA, encouraged participants to think beyond employment and focus on creating innovative, job-generating solutions that contribute to economic diversification.
The Ministry of Labour and Home Affairs played a key role in the facilitation of group sessions, with Ms. Magdeline Samuel guiding attendees through the core pillars of the Generation Unlimited (GenU) framework: Social Impact, Entrepreneurship, Employment, and Connectivity. These discussions aimed to build youth capacity in areas aligned with current global and national development goals.
Highlighting private sector engagement, Mr. Olefile Setswamokwena, Vice President of Human Resources at De Beers Group, shared that the new sales agreement between De Beers and the Government of Botswana includes a strong commitment to talent development. This will be achieved through internships, sponsorships, and the International Graduate Development Programme.
In a practical mentorship session, Ms. Ntsibeng Selebogo, Talent Acquisition Officer at De Beers, coached attendees on CV writing, interview preparation, and personal branding to better position themselves for future opportunities.
For Botswana’s entrepreneurs and business leaders, the workshop signals a growing emphasis on preparing young people not just for jobs, but for active participation in the economy through innovation and enterprise.
