Kutlwano Market Stalls Signal Fresh Commercial Momentum for Selibe-Phikwe. The Kutlwano Market Stalls have officially opened in Selibe-Phikwe, marking a meaningful step in the town’s ongoing bid to revive local economic activity. The P3.2 million development, launched this week, introduces a modern trading space aimed at strengthening the informal sector and improving commercial participation for small enterprises.

The Local Enterprise Authority (LEA) Caretaker CEO, Thato Jensen, said the project represents a timely milestone for a town still working to rebuild its economic base. He explained that the initiative had experienced initial delays, but momentum was restored after the Selibe-Phikwe Town Council committed P1 million toward the development. This contribution enabled the completion of the facility, positioning it as a practical asset for traders.

The newly opened market consists of 42 stalls along with an ablutions block, offering a clean and structured trading environment intended to support the growth of micro-businesses. Jensen noted that the facility is expected to help traders increase their earning capacity while contributing to the broader goal of restoring business confidence in Selibe-Phikwe.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Trade and Entrepreneurship Tiroyaone Ntsima highlighted government’s continued focus on empowering the informal sector. He encouraged regulatory bodies to revisit bylaws that may be constraining small enterprises, adding that restrictive measures can undermine efforts to strengthen entrepreneurship and stimulate localized economic development.

For Botswana’s entrepreneurial community, the Kutlwano Market Stalls present new opportunities for retail activity, supplier engagement, and grassroots enterprise expansion. As Selibe-Phikwe continues to rebuild, the development stands as a reminder that strategic investment in small business infrastructure remains essential to supporting inclusive economic recovery.
