Kolonkwaneng Women-Led Beverage Brand Gaining Ground in Botswana and Beyond. Sheroo Dinah Motlopi Beverages, a women-founded company rooted in Kolonkwaneng in Botswana’s Kgalagadi South region, is drawing national attention for turning indigenous knowledge into a thriving business.

Formed in 2008 by a group of four women, the company specialises in producing motlopi tea, a traditional herbal beverage made from the roots of the shepherd tree (Boscia albitrunca). Their work combines generational knowledge with a strong commitment to health, nutrition, and environmental sustainability.

Led by Ms. Dinah Botha, Sheroo Dinah Motlopi Beverages has grown steadily, creating employment and contributing to the local economy. The team harvests motlopi responsibly, following guidelines from the Department of Forestry to ensure environmental conservation.

Their dedication has earned them recognition and support. The company has showcased its products at Global Expo Botswana (GEB), Biashara Afrika 2024 in Rwanda (with backing from UNDP Botswana), and exhibitions in South Africa. Their motlopi tea has passed safety and quality assessments by the National Agricultural Research and Development Institute (NARDI) and Botswana’s Ministry of Health.

Currently, their products are available at Square Mart, Hilton Garden Inn, and Nhabe Pharmacy in Gaborone, as well as the #PushaBW store at Sir Seretse Khama International Airport.

Sheroo Dinah Motlopi Beverages is now looking to expand its reach by entering larger retail chains and exploring export opportunities within the African market. Their story is one of innovation through tradition and serves as an inspiring example for Botswana entrepreneurs aiming to build scalable businesses from local resources.
