Khoemacau Copper Mine Commits P13 Million Annually to Uplift North West Botswana Communities. Khoemacau Copper Mining, operated by MMG, has pledged to invest P13 million (equivalent to USD1 million) every year starting in 2026 toward community development initiatives in Botswana’s North West District.
The announcement was made by the company’s Director of Operations, Weiquan Xia, during the 2025 Future of Mining Summit. He highlighted that the funding will go toward improving school infrastructure, increasing access to clean water, and supporting small-scale poultry farming in surrounding communities.
Xia emphasized that Khoemacau’s approach to sustainability is driven by stakeholder needs, ensuring that initiatives align with community priorities and long-term development goals.
In addition to its community investments, Khoemacau is also playing a role in youth empowerment and skills development. Since inception, the mine has permanently employed 50 graduates who completed its training programme. Between 2021 and 2025, 42 students have benefited from industrial attachments, in collaboration with academic institutions.
Xia confirmed that the company will continue supporting graduate training, internships, and industrial attachments as part of its broader strategy to strengthen capacity in Botswana’s mining industry.
The announcement marks a significant commitment to inclusive development in the region and signals the mining sector’s evolving role in socio-economic upliftment beyond mineral extraction.
