Kenewendo Positions Botswana as Investment Hub for Strategic Minerals and IInfrastructure. Botswana has reaffirmed its position as a stable and reliable destination for global investment, with a particular focus on strategic minerals, value chain development, and integrated infrastructure.
Speaking on Sunday evening in Cape Town at the Africa Mining Welcome Reception hosted by Brand South Africa, Minister of Minerals and Energy, Honourable Bogolo Joy Kenewendo, said Botswana remains open and ready for business. She highlighted the country’s efforts to create an environment that supports long-term investment, especially within the mining sector.
Minister Kenewendo outlined key policy decisions undertaken by the Government of Botswana to enhance the country’s attractiveness to international investors. She pointed to a stable, transparent, and investor-friendly regulatory framework as a foundation for sustained investment and economic growth.
Addressing delegates alongside South Africa’s Deputy Minister in the Presidency, Honourable Kenny Morolong, Kenewendo called for stronger collaboration among African countries. She said coordinated continental efforts are essential to unlocking Africa’s economic potential and ensuring that mineral wealth contributes meaningfully to development across the region.
The minister also took part in a high-level panel discussion alongside Deputy Minister Morolong, Zambia Industrial Development Corporation Head of Investments for Mining and Energy Mr Mulumba Lwatula, and Transnet Board Chairperson Dr Andile Sangqu. The discussion focused on the role of critical minerals, integrated infrastructure, and coherent policy frameworks in advancing Africa’s sustainable development agenda.
According to the ministry, the panel emphasised the need for alignment between mineral development and infrastructure planning to support industrialisation and regional trade. Participants also discussed the importance of policy consistency in attracting investment into strategic sectors.
Minister Kenewendo is leading Botswana’s delegation at the Invest in African Mining Indaba 2026, taking place from 9 to 12 February. The delegation is engaging with investors and strategic partners across the minerals, energy, and green technology sectors as part of Botswana’s broader investment promotion efforts.
