ITC Launches EUR 7.9 Million EU-Funded Programme to Boost Green Growth in Botswana. The International Trade Centre (ITC) has launched a EUR 7.9 million programme funded by the European Union (EU) to accelerate green growth and economic diversification in Botswana. The initiative is designed to strengthen the competitiveness of ecotourism and horticulture value chains, unlocking new trade and export opportunities for the country.

The ITC delegation is currently leading an inception mission in Botswana to ensure national ownership, alignment with government development priorities, and coordinated support from the United Nations. Led by Programme Manager Helge Senkpiel, the delegation paid a courtesy call to the Ministry of Trade and Entrepreneurship, where they were received by Permanent Secretary Joel Duke Ramaphoi.

This mission marks the beginning of a four-month inception phase, which will lay the groundwork for the full implementation of a Trade Related Technical Assistance initiative. The programme aims to ensure that its activities align with Botswana’s national priorities, international trade commitments, and evolving economic landscape. It will also define tailored technical support from ITC to strengthen Botswana’s capacity in targeted sectors.

By focusing on ecotourism and horticulture, the programme seeks to promote sustainable practices, diversify the economy, and enhance Botswana’s competitiveness in regional and global markets. The initiative reflects a broader commitment to supporting inclusive growth, environmental sustainability, and long-term resilience in the country’s trade and investment framework.
