Hukuntsi Hosts WTISD 2025, Spotlighting Gender Equality in Digital Innovation. Entrepreneurs, innovators, and community members gathered in Hukuntsi to mark the 2025 World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD), celebrated under the theme “Gender Equality in Digital Transformation.”

The event featured a keynote address by the Assistant Minister of Communications & Innovation, Shawn Ntlhaile, who emphasized the importance of inclusive digital growth and the need to create equal opportunities for women in the tech and innovation sectors.

WTISD 2025 served as a platform for showcasing how digital transformation can empower communities, particularly women, and highlighted the role of telecommunications in bridging social and economic divides. The event included a tour of stalls set up by industry stakeholders, offering attendees a chance to engage with digital solutions and innovations developed locally.

The Botswana Digital & Innovation Hub (BDIH) was among the featured exhibitors, using the occasion to showcase the work of startups it supports. Two standout participants, IoT Communications and Ipachi Capital, demonstrated their contributions to Botswana’s growing innovation ecosystem.

The event was made possible through collaboration with key partners including BOCRA, the Ministry of Communications & Innovation, and various industry players who contributed to the day’s success.

For Botswana’s entrepreneurs, WTISD in Hukuntsi highlighted the importance of access, visibility, and collaboration. As digital tools become increasingly vital across sectors, events like this create valuable opportunities for networking, learning, and showcasing homegrown solutions.

The large turnout from Hukuntsi and surrounding areas reflected strong community interest in digital development and innovation. As the digital economy continues to expand, platforms like WTISD offer vital exposure and momentum for emerging ventures across Botswana.
