Honda Leads New Car Registrations in Botswana’s Third Quarter. Honda recorded the highest share of new vehicle registrations among first-time car buyers in Botswana during the third quarter of 2025, according to the latest market figures. The brand accounted for 20.6 percent of all new registrations during the period, with most of these being passenger vehicles.
This marks an increase from the previous quarter, when Honda held 18.7 percent of new registrations. The latest figures also show a shift from the third quarter of 2024, when Toyota led with 20.5 percent, followed by Mazda at 19.3 percent and Honda at 17.9 percent.
Despite Honda’s lead, competition among leading brands remained close. Toyota registered 18.9 percent of new vehicles in the third quarter of 2025, while Mazda followed with 18 percent.
Monthly data for the quarter shows that July recorded the highest number of new registrations, contributing 35.1 percent of the total. August followed with 33.8 percent, while September accounted for 31.1 percent.
Urban centres continued to drive most of the growth in first-time vehicle registrations. Gaborone led by a significant margin, accounting for 57.1 percent of all new registrations during the quarter. Francistown followed with 8.9 percent, while Molepolole contributed 8.2 percent.
The figures reflect shifts in brand preference and purchasing patterns among new car buyers across Botswana during the three-month period.
