Harvestime Seeks Acquisition of McCain Vegetable Processing Business. The Competition and Consumer Authority has received a merger notification regarding the proposed acquisition by Harvestime (Pty) Ltd of the vegetable processing business of McCain Foods (South Africa) Pty Ltd.

Under the proposed transaction, Harvestime will obtain full control of the target business as a going concern. Harvestime is indirectly wholly owned by Enduring Group and currently has no operations in Botswana. The seller forms part of the wider McCain Foods Limited group, which is ultimately controlled by McCain Foods Group Inc.

The McCain business is active in the frozen food market, primarily servicing the retail products and food services industries. Its operations include processing, freezing, packaging, and distributing vegetables from plants in South Africa. These products are supplied to a distributor that services supermarkets across Botswana, making the business a key player in the regional frozen food supply chain.

The Competition and Consumer Authority will assess the merger notification to determine its potential impact on competition and consumers in Botswana. Such reviews typically consider whether the transaction may affect market dynamics, pricing, or consumer choice, while also evaluating the broader implications for trade and investment.

This proposed acquisition highlights ongoing consolidation within the food processing sector, reflecting efforts by companies to strengthen their market presence and streamline operations. The Authority’s review will provide clarity on how the transaction aligns with Botswana’s regulatory framework and economic interests.
