Government Opens Dialogue with Botswana’s Creative Sector to Drive Economic Growth. The Ministry for State President, in partnership with the Ministry of Sports and Arts, has launched an open dialogue aimed at strengthening collaboration with Botswana’s creative industry. The initiative seeks to position the sector as a key contributor to the national economy through diversification, innovation, and sustainable growth.

Addressing creatives during the engagement, Minister for State President Hon. Moeti Caesar Mohwasa reaffirmed government’s commitment to investing in and expanding Botswana’s creative economy. He noted that these open dialogues are designed to bridge the gap between policymakers and the creative community, ensuring that the sector’s challenges and opportunities are addressed through direct collaboration.

The discussions covered key issues affecting the industry, including creative billing, language policy, the digital service bill, and content monetisation. These topics are crucial for enhancing transparency, supporting intellectual property rights, and ensuring creators benefit financially from their work in an increasingly digital environment.

Hon. Mohwasa underscored the importance of partnerships between government, the private sector, and industry organisations to build capacity and promote the sector’s growth. He highlighted that by working together, Botswana can unlock the economic potential of its creative industries—spanning music, film, design, and digital content creation—to support job creation and innovation.
