Government Calls on Entrepreneurs and Innovators to Shape Botswana’s Economic Future. The Botswana Economic Transformation Programme (BETP) has officially opened a Call for Ideas, inviting entrepreneurs, investors, and institutions to contribute bold, practical solutions that can help drive the country’s economic revival and long-term diversification.

Launched by President Advocate Duma Gideon Boko, the programme is described as “radical and results-oriented,” shifting away from conventional development planning toward implementation-focused action. The BETP comes at a critical time, as Botswana seeks to recover from a slowdown in diamond sales and build a more resilient, inclusive, and globally competitive economy.

Speaking at the launch, President Boko stressed that the transformation Botswana seeks cannot be achieved by government alone. Public-private collaboration, innovation, and community engagement will be essential to unlocking new opportunities and overcoming structural economic challenges.

The Call for Ideas is not a competition but a strategic invitation for stakeholders to put forward ideas and proposals that:Stimulate new sectors and engines of growthOffer fresh solutions to long-standing economic barriersCreate jobs and support enterprise developmentElevate Botswana’s regional and global competitivenessFoster inclusive and sustainable development

The government is particularly interested in initiatives that are scalable, locally driven, and capable of creating meaningful impact across diverse sectors including agriculture, manufacturing, tourism, tech, and green industries.

For entrepreneurs, SMEs, and private sector leaders, the BETP represents a significant platform to align with national priorities and scale innovative ideas with government support.

Interested parties can submit their proposals via http://cfi.gov.bw or contact the Ministry of Finance at cfibw@gov.bw, 395 0300, 398 9948, or on WhatsApp at +267 7625 9815.
