Gambling Authority Supports Capacity Building at Resource Mobilisation Workshop. The Gambling Authority participated in a Resource Mobilisation Workshop held from 12 to 15 January 2026, as part of ongoing efforts to support community-based organisations facing economic challenges. The workshop was facilitated by the Botswana Council for the Disabled (BCD) in partnership with Boleng Training and Consultancy Services.
The multi-day engagement brought together various stakeholders to focus on strengthening resource mobilisation skills and improving organisational sustainability. The Gambling Authority’s participation formed part of its corporate social responsibility initiatives aimed at promoting inclusive growth and supporting community development.
During the workshop, the Authority’s Senior Licensing Officer delivered a presentation on Private Lotteries, providing participants with information relevant to regulatory requirements and operational considerations within the sector. The presentation addressed key aspects of private lottery activities as regulated in Botswana, contributing to broader awareness and understanding among attending organisations.
In addition, the Gambling Authority’s Public Education Officer, Ms Mavis Madumetse, presented on Responsible Gambling practices. Her session focused on promoting responsible participation in gambling activities and highlighted the importance of public education in reducing potential social risks associated with gambling. The presentation aligned with the Authority’s ongoing public education mandate.
The workshop was organised in response to economic pressures affecting community-based organisations, with an emphasis on practical knowledge-sharing and collaboration. Through its involvement, the Gambling Authority reaffirmed its commitment to supporting capacity-building initiatives that contribute to sustainable community development.
The Authority stated that engagements of this nature support social inclusion while encouraging responsible practices within regulated sectors. By contributing technical expertise and educational resources, the Authority continues to play a role beyond regulation, extending its impact to broader socio-economic development efforts.
The Resource Mobilisation Workshop also provided a platform for dialogue between facilitators, participants and institutions, encouraging collaboration and the exchange of ideas aimed at improving organisational resilience.
