Gambling Authority Educates Metsimotlhabe Students on Dangers of Underage Gambling. The Gambling Authority of Botswana hosted an impactful outreach session at Ikageng CJSS in Metsimotlhabe, raising awareness among students and educators about the risks and consequences of underage gambling. The campaign, themed “Dreams Before Dices,” aimed to promote responsible gambling behaviour and safeguard youth from gambling-related harm.

During the engagement, students were encouraged to prioritise education and healthy lifestyle choices over risky behaviours such as betting. Teachers and family members were also addressed as crucial partners in identifying and addressing signs of problem gambling.

According to the Gambling Authority, concerned family members can submit third-party exclusion applications for loved ones showing signs of gambling addiction. In addition, counselling and referral services are available to assist affected individuals.

“Problem gambling doesn’t just affect individuals — it impacts families, communities, and the economy. Education and early intervention are key to prevention,” a representative from the Authority stated.

The initiative forms part of a broader national strategy to build a diversified, compliant, and safe gambling industry in Botswana. It aligns with the Authority’s mission to support inclusive growth while ensuring that vulnerable groups, especially youth, are protected from harmful gambling practices.

For entrepreneurs and business owners in the gaming and entertainment sectors, the campaign also reinforces the importance of strict compliance with legal age restrictions and responsible conduct in the industry.
