Gambling Authority Champions Reform as Bet267 Launches in Botswana. The Gambling Authority has officially welcomed the launch of Bet267 in Botswana, reinforcing its commitment to fostering a regulated, inclusive, and economically beneficial gambling environment.Speaking at the launch held in Mogoditshane, Gambling Authority CEO Emolemo Peter Kesitilwe said Bet267’s entry marks a critical step toward closing the gap between regulated and unregulated gambling in the country. He noted that only 40% of Botswana’s estimated 550,000 active gamblers currently engage with licensed operators.

Kesitilwe revealed that in March 2025 alone, local bettors placed P150 million worth of wagers, generating P15 million in gross gambling revenue. Extrapolated annually, this amounts to P180 million—derived from less than half of the market. “If we expand regulation to reach the full market, GGR could exceed P450 million,” he stated.

To address current challenges, the Gambling Authority is pursuing amendments to the Gambling Act of 2012 and a review of the 2002 Gambling Policy. Proposed reforms include lowering the legal gambling age to 18, enhancing digital oversight, and strengthening anti-money laundering measures.

Bet267’s Mogoditshane site currently employs eight staff members—seven of whom are women—with plans to expand to 26 jobs locally and over 100 nationwide, including in Palapye, Gaborone, and Letlhakane.

Kesitilwe also acknowledged Bet267’s corporate social responsibility efforts in Mogoditshane, highlighting initiatives aimed at youth development, health, and education.
