Francistown Youth Empowerment Workshop Unites Stakeholders to Tackle Unemployment. Key stakeholders have joined forces in Francistown to confront the rising challenge of youth unemployment in Botswana by equipping young people with essential skills for today’s job market.
The Ministry of Youth and Gender Affairs, Ministry of Labour and Home Affairs, De Beers Group, and UNICEF hosted a Youth Employability Workshop aimed at fostering entrepreneurship, employability, and digital readiness among the youth. The initiative forms part of a nationwide effort to improve employment outcomes for young Batswana.
Speaking at the event, Ms. Thabile Moipolai, Senior Vice President People and Partnerships at De Beers Group, highlighted the importance of community-driven development. She noted that the recent sales agreement between De Beers and the Government of Botswana includes a strengthened commitment to citizen empowerment and human capital growth.
The workshop featured a dynamic session led by Generation Unlimited, where participants engaged in discussions around employment, entrepreneurship, digital connectivity, and social impact. The platform encouraged young attendees to voice their ideas and challenges while exploring practical solutions in a collaborative setting.
De Beers also facilitated a hands-on CV writing and interview skills session, providing attendees with valuable insights to better navigate the job-seeking process.
This initiative holds particular relevance for entrepreneurs and small business leaders across Botswana, as it highlights the role of cross-sector collaboration in nurturing future talent. By investing in youth employability, businesses can also contribute to building a more skilled and competitive local workforce.
