First Capital Bank Launches Real-Time Cross-Border Payment Platform. First Capital Bank has introduced Transactions Cleared on Immediate Basis (TCIB), a new cross-border payment solution that enables customers to receive funds instantly from across the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region.

With this launch, First Capital Bank becomes the first institution in Botswana to process inbound cross-border payments through the TCIB platform, marking a significant milestone in regional payments integration. The service is designed to reduce delays traditionally associated with international transfers, offering customers faster, more secure, and lower-cost transactions.

The TCIB platform supports multiple SADC currencies and facilitates transactions from participating partners, including SendHome in South Africa and ZB Bank in Zimbabwe. This regional collaboration reflects growing momentum toward harmonized financial systems across Southern Africa.

Thatayaone Nicholas Matlapeng, Country Head of Retail Banking at First Capital Bank, explained that the platform is tailored to support high-volume, low-value cross-border transactions in real time. He emphasized that the initiative aligns with SADC’s broader objectives of strengthening regional financial integration and promoting financial inclusion.

By offering instant payments, the bank aims to empower individuals and businesses who rely on cross-border remittances and trade. The solution is expected to particularly benefit small enterprises and families who depend on timely transfers for daily needs.

First Capital Bank highlighted that the launch reinforces its commitment to delivering innovative, customer-focused financial solutions. The institution views TCIB as a step toward creating seamless financial connectivity across borders, enabling customers to transact with greater efficiency and confidence.

The introduction of TCIB positions Botswana as an active participant in regional financial innovation, while providing practical benefits to customers who require reliable and immediate access to funds across the SADC region.
