Family Feud Botswana Production Costs Highlight Investment in Local TV. The production of Family Feud Botswana, hosted by Steve Harvey, has cost a total of $1.53 million (approximately P21 million) for 26 episodes, underscoring the scale of investment required for international-standard television productions.
Speaking on the matter, Minister for State President Moeti Mohwasa revealed that the show was initially planned to be recorded locally. However, due to the need for a larger production space, filming could not take place at the Mass Media facilities. Plans are now underway to ensure that Seasons 2 and 3 will be produced in Botswana.
Despite being filmed outside the country, the production heavily involved local participation. A total of 613 Batswana contributed to the project, including 260 competing families, 21 graduates from the film development training academy, and 332 support personnel across various roles. This extensive involvement highlights the project’s impact on skills development and employment within the creative sector.
The initiative demonstrates both the high costs associated with producing content that meets international standards and the ongoing efforts to strengthen Botswana’s local production capacity. Officials emphasized that the experience gained by participants will contribute to building a more resilient and competitive media industry in the country.
Family Feud Botswana’s investment reflects a broader push to position Botswana as a hub for creative industries, with television production serving as a platform for cultural expression, entertainment, and economic growth. The commitment to producing future seasons locally is expected to further enhance opportunities for skills transfer, employment, and industry development.
The project stands as a milestone in Botswana’s journey toward expanding its creative economy, showing how global entertainment formats can be adapted to local contexts while fostering national talent.
