Empowering Botswana’s Youth: MYGA and UNICEF Host Gen-U Employability Workshop in Goodhope. The Ministry of Youth and Gender Affairs (MYGA), in partnership with UNICEF and key government agencies, recently hosted a two-day Generation Unlimited (Gen-U) employability workshop in Goodhope to equip young people with critical job-readiness skills and improve access to employment opportunities.
The workshop, supported by the Ministry of Labour and Home Affairs and other stakeholders, aimed to bridge the gap between youth and the job market by empowering participants with practical tools and digital resources. Over 2,000 young people across Botswana are expected to benefit from the Gen-U initiative, which forms part of a broader effort to tackle youth unemployment through skills development and digital inclusion.
Participants were introduced to the Yoma platform, a digital tool designed to help youth track their learning, connect with mentors, and explore career paths aligned with their interests. The training focused on core employability skills such as effective communication, time management, and teamwork—key traits needed in today’s competitive labour environment.
The workshop also served as a confidence-building exercise, especially for out-of-school youth and those with limited formal qualifications. By offering structured support and encouragement, facilitators aimed to shift mindsets and spark motivation among attendees to take charge of their futures.
This initiative reflects the government’s continued commitment to nurturing a skilled and resilient youth population capable of driving Botswana’s long-term development. As entrepreneurship and innovation take center stage in national discourse, the Generation Unlimited programme reinforces the importance of inclusive partnerships to unlock youth potential.
