Duma FM Journalist Wins 0.8-Carat Natural Diamond at Business CConference. Duma FM correspondent Joy Chikura has won a 0.8-carat natural diamond in a lucky draw hosted by Debswana during the 18th Business Botswana National Business Conference in Francistown.
The diamond was awarded at a networking dinner hosted by Debswana at Cresta Marang Gardens on 19 October 2026, as part of an initiative celebrating Botswana’s diamond heritage.
Guests at the event participated in a random draw using numbered champagne glasses. A randomiser application was used to progressively narrow the selection until the winning number was identified.
Chikura, who is based in Francistown, said receiving the diamond was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. She credited God for the unexpected win and thanked Debswana for the initiative.
“Winning a natural diamond is a humbling experience. It can only be God who made it possible,” she said.
He diamond was mined at Debswana’s operations and purchased through KGK Diamonds, a De Beers Group retailer based in Gaborone.
Chikura has a longstanding professional association with Debswana through her work as a journalist. She has covered the mining company’s events for several years and has toured its Orapa, Letlhakane and Damtshaa mines.
Her experience reporting on the diamond industry made the prize particularly significant, although she said she had never expected to become the owner of one of Botswana’s natural diamonds.
The initiative formed part of Debswana’s efforts to celebrate Botswana’s natural diamonds and create memorable experiences for Batswana while highlighting the country’s diamond resources.
The award was presented during a conference that brought together business stakeholders in Francistown for the 18th Business Botswana National Business Conference.
