Dr. Never Tshabang Appointed CEO of Botswana Energy Regulatory Authority. The Botswana Energy Regulatory Authority (BERA) has announced the appointment of Dr. Never Tshabang as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective 1 August 2025. The appointment signals a new chapter for the Authority as it seeks to strengthen regulatory oversight and foster sustainable energy development in Botswana.
Dr. Tshabang brings a rich background in academia, public service, and corporate governance, with more than 20 years of leadership experience. He holds a PhD in Chemistry from the Australian National University and an MBA from the University of Botswana.
His career includes a distinguished tenure as Senior Lecturer at the University of Botswana, as well as serving as Member of Parliament for Nkange. Notably, he also chaired the Parliamentary Committee on State-Owned Enterprises, where he gained key insights into public sector performance and regulatory frameworks.
In its official statement, the BERA Board expressed confidence in Dr. Tshabang’s ability to lead the Authority through a rapidly evolving energy landscape, marked by shifting regulatory demands, increasing private sector participation, and the growing role of renewable energy in Botswana’s development strategy.
