Donkey Milk Project Explores Expansion Opportunities in Botswana’s Kgalagadi District. The Botswana Innovation Fund (BIF) has engaged district leaders and government representatives on the expansion plans of Donkey Milk Industries, a funded project seeking to develop an alternative livestock value chain in Botswana’s Kgalagadi District.

The engagement took place in Tsabong on 13 October 2026, where project owner Johannes Visage presented the initiative’s vision and proposed expansion plans to district leadership, Dikgosi, Members of Parliament and government representatives.

Discussions centred on the project’s potential to contribute to employment creation and economic diversification in the district through the development of an alternative livestock industry.

Several requirements for advancing the project were also discussed, including access to suitable land, farm expansion, soil testing and technical support. These were identified as key considerations in progressing the initiative towards its intended objectives.

Botswana-led company RichNovex is supporting Donkey Milk Industries in bringing its solution to market. However, the update did not specify the nature of the solution, the projected investment value or the expected number of jobs the project could create

Following the stakeholder engagement, BIF visited the land earmarked for the project and the site where the donkeys are currently kept. The visits provided the fund with an opportunity to view the proposed development site and observe the project’s existing operations.

The engagement forms part of BIF’s monitoring of the funded initiative as it advances towards its objectives.

The project’s proposed expansion places the development of an alternative livestock value chain at the centre of discussions about economic opportunities in the Kgalagadi District.

Access to suitable land, technical support and the other requirements identified during the engagement remain among the considerations discussed with stakeholders.
