Dikgwebo Dialogues in Palapye Deliver Practical Insights for Entrepreneurs. Palapye played host today to the latest edition of the Dikgwebo Dialogues, a business engagement platform bringing together key players from Botswana’s innovation ecosystem. The event, powered by the Botswana Digital and Innovation Hub (BDIH) in partnership with UNICEF Botswana and Generation Unlimited, featured representatives from CIPA, BOBS, BIUST, LEA, NARDI, CEDA, and WIBA.
The platform provided entrepreneurs and startups with actionable knowledge on compliance, standards, financing, and growth strategies. Marietta Magashula of the Companies and Intellectual Property Authority (CIPA) guided attendees through the importance of business compliance and intellectual property registration, highlighting how protecting innovations can strengthen competitiveness in the market.
Botswana Bureau of Standards (BOBS) representative Peter Mpete challenged entrepreneurs to rethink their approach to business. “Don’t get into business to make money but get into business to solve a problem or challenge, and the most important thing is to give quality — then money will follow, and a lot of it,” he said.
Local Enterprise Authority (LEA) Regional Manager Dipuo Koma outlined the agency’s newly expanded presence in Palapye, aimed at improving access to business support services. She emphasised LEA’s role in providing Capacity Building Plans alongside tailored interventions that help startups grow into sustainable and competitive enterprises.
For participants, the Dikgwebo Dialogues offered a rare opportunity to engage directly with national agencies and institutions that influence the business landscape. Discussions focused on aligning innovative ideas with compliance requirements, meeting quality standards, and accessing resources for expansion.
By combining expertise from multiple sectors, the event underscored the value of collaboration in building Botswana’s entrepreneurial capacity. It also reinforced Palapye’s growing role as a hub for business development and innovation.
