Diamond College Launches P200,000 SMS Competition to Support Gaborone 26 World Athletics Relays. Diamond College of Botswana has launched a nationwide SMS competition offering cash prizes worth up to P200,000 as part of its sponsorship of the upcoming Gaborone 26 World Athletics Relays.
The competition was unveiled this morning and is open to participants across Botswana. It provides members of the public with an opportunity to take part in activities linked to the international athletics event through an SMS-based entry mechanism. Monthly cash prizes of P10,000 are available, with the overall winner set to receive the grand prize of P200,000. The announcement of the grand prize winner is scheduled for April 28.
The SMS competition forms part of the build-up to the Gaborone 26 World Athletics Relays, which will take place on May 2 and 3. The event will mark a historic first, as it will be the first time the World Athletics Relays are hosted in Botswana and on African soil.
Speaking on the initiative, Diamond College of Botswana representative Allan Moyo said the competition was introduced to broaden public participation around the relays. He explained that the initiative is intended to allow Batswana to engage with the event even if they are unable to attend in person.“The SMS competition allows the public to actively participate in this historic moment for Botswana while supporting the successful hosting of the World Athletics Relays,” said Moyo.
The competition is expected to run in the lead-up to the athletics event, with winners announced during the promotional period. According to Diamond College, the initiative aligns with its sponsorship of the relays and its involvement in activities surrounding the event.
The Gaborone 26 World Athletics Relays are expected to bring together elite athletes, international athletics officials, and global media. The event is set to place Botswana at the centre of international athletics during the two-day competition, with Diamond College’s SMS competition adding a public engagement element ahead of the relays.
