Debswana Strengthens Global Diamond Industry Role with World Diamond Council Membership. Debswana Diamond Company has officially joined the World Diamond Council (WDC) under the Extraction and Mining category, marking a significant milestone for Botswana’s diamond industry. The WDC represents a select network of global leaders dedicated to protecting the integrity, reputation, and ethical standards of natural diamonds across the entire value chain.

As a new member, Debswana joins a coalition that works closely on advocacy, policy engagement, and traceability initiatives to promote responsible diamond sourcing and trading. The move underscores the company’s continued commitment to ethical mining and transparency — principles that have long shaped Botswana’s international reputation as a trusted source of natural diamonds.

Debswana Chief Executive Officer, Andrew Maatla Motsomi, said the membership represents a key step in ensuring Botswana’s diamonds remain recognised and protected on the world stage. “Our membership in the World Diamond Council represents a crucial step in our journey to ensure that Botswana’s diamonds are recognised and protected globally,” he said.

Welcoming Debswana to the organisation, WDC President Feriel Zerouki commended the company’s contribution to responsible industry practices. “With the help of our members, we will continue to bolster the Kimberley Process, the WDC System of Warranties, and consumer confidence in our product,” Zerouki said.
