De Beers Sets 2030 Sustainability Targets Across Four Key AAreas. De Beers has outlined its 2030 sustainability targets under its Building Forever strategy, with commitments covering livelihoods, nature, climate action and diamond provenance.

The company presented the targets during Botswana Sustainability Week 2026, where Vice President Corporate Affairs Otsile Mabeo said the framework was intended to translate sustainability commitments into measurable outcomes for communities, the environment and economies where De Beers operates.

Under the Livelihoods pillar, De Beers aims to support four jobs in its communities for every job within its operations. The company says the target is intended to contribute to poverty reduction, economic growth and economic diversification.

The Nature pillar includes a target to secure three times more land for nature than the land impacted by its activities. De Beers also aims to fund partnerships that help safeguard an additional 13 million acres.

On climate action, the company has committed to reducing its overall carbon footprint by one-third. This includes targets to reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 42% and Scope 3 emissions by 25%, using 2021 as the baseline.

The emissions targets form part of De Beers’ near-term science-based targets.

The fourth pillar, Provenance, focuses on ethical sourcing and diamond traceability. De Beers cited initiatives including its Best Practice Principles, Pipeline Integrity Programme and Tracr as mechanisms supporting greater transparency across the diamond value chain.

The targets form part of the company’s wider Building Forever strategy, which sits under its stated purpose of “Making Life Brilliant”. For Botswana, where diamonds remain economically significant, the sustainability framework places emphasis on the relationship between resource management, community development and long-term economic value.

The 2030 commitments cover areas extending beyond De Beers’ direct mining activities, including employment opportunities in communities, conservation partnerships and traceability across the diamond value chain.
