Dangote Cement to Establish Operations in Botswana Following BITC Facilitation. The Botswana Investment and Trade Centre (BITC) has confirmed that Dangote Cement will set up operations in Botswana, a move expected to strengthen the country’s manufacturing sector and reduce reliance on imports.

The decision follows a fact-finding mission hosted by BITC in June 2024, during which the Nigerian multinational assessed Botswana’s investment climate and opportunities in the cement industry. The mission came in response to Statutory Instrument 102 of 2025, which restricts the importation of pre-packed cement, thereby creating space for increased local production.

BITC arranged high-level meetings for Dangote Cement with key stakeholders, including government agencies, regulators, and major retailers. These engagements provided clarity on market potential, policy frameworks, and the strategic value of investing in Botswana.

As a result of this facilitation, Dangote Cement has already identified land for the development of a cement manufacturing plant. The project is expected to contribute significantly to Botswana’s economic diversification agenda by boosting domestic production capacity, supporting infrastructure development, and curbing the outflow of foreign currency spent on cement imports

Beyond industrial growth, the investment will generate employment opportunities and strengthen value chains in sectors linked to construction and retail. For Botswana businesses, this represents a new opportunity to benefit from local supply partnerships and more stable access to cement.
