Creative Connect Comedy Lab Strengthens Skills and Opportunities for Botswana’s Creative Sector. Botswana’s creative community received a boost this week as the Creative Connect Comedy Lab concluded its four-day intensive workshop aimed at equipping local artists with industry-ready skills. The programme brought together creatives from various disciplines for training that spanned stand-up comedy, film, scriptwriting, advertising, and the business of comedy.
The workshop featured sessions led in part by award-winning comedian Mo Mothebe, who shared insights on crafting compelling performances and navigating the professional side of the comedy industry. Participants explored how to develop strong narratives, refine their stage presence, and position their work for commercial opportunities.
Industry-focused training programmes like this one are increasingly important to Botswana’s creative economy, which continues to grow as more artists pursue careers in film, performance, and digital entertainment. By providing practical knowledge and structured learning, the Comedy Lab supports artists in building sustainable careers and expanding their market reach.
The initiative was supported by the National Arts Council of Botswana (NACB) under the 2024/25 Arts and Culture Grant cycle. The Council’s ongoing efforts aim to strengthen the foundations of local creative industries by funding programmes that nurture talent, improve skills, and promote professional development.
Organisers highlighted the importance of ongoing training and collaboration within the creative ecosystem, noting that such engagements help bridge gaps in business understanding, industry exposure, and creative strategy. Participants left the workshop better equipped to compete in both local and regional markets.
As the Comedy Lab wraps up, audiences are reminded to secure tickets for the upcoming show, One Night with Robby Collins & Mo Mothebe, which will showcase some of the talent and momentum building within Botswana’s comedy scene.
